JACKSON, Miss. – Alcorn State University baseball dropped the second game of its series with Southern University on Saturday afternoon at Smith-Wills Stadium. The Braves fought hard but were defeated 7-14 by the Jaguars. Alcorn was also defeated on Friday night by Southern to open the three-game stretch, 2-10.
Game One
On Friday night, ASU scored two runs on three hits while committing an error.
Garrett Palladino went 2-of-4 at the plate with an RBI while
Kalum Banks, Jr. went 1-of-3, scored a run and batted one in.
Southern scored 10 runs on 11 hits while committing an error. Dylan Jones went 3-of-4 at the plate, scored two runs, and batted three runs in. Sadir Ryan finished the contest with two RBI. Jalon Mack went 1-of-4, scored two runs, and had an RBI. Khyle Radcliffe went 4-of-5 with two runs scored and an RBI. Tyeler Hawkins went 2-of-6 at the plate with a run and an RBI.
Ranard Grace snapped up the win for SU with a complete game pitched for three hits, two errors, one earned run, nine strikeouts, and 30 batters faced.
Kewan Braziel suffered the loss for Alcorn with six innings pitched for six hits, six runs (two earned), six walks, five strikeouts, and 31 batters faced.
Game Two
Alcorn scored seven runs on 11 hits while committing an error.
Nathan Gamez had the hot bat for the Braves as he finished 2-of-4 at the plate, scored a run, batted three in and hit a home run.
Jaylon Burrell had an RBI.
Ben Martin went 2-of-5 with two RBI.
Southern scored 14 runs on 11 hits while committing an error. Radcliffe went 5-of-5 at the plate scored a run and batted six in. Mack went 2-of-5 and batted two in. Kameron Byrd went 1-of-3, scored two runs, and had two RBI. Hawkins went 1-of-2, scored five runs, and batted one in. Ryan scored two runs and batted one in.
Genesis Prosper picked up the win for the Jags with four innings pitched for two hits, one walk, one wild pitch, two strikeouts, and facing 15 batters. Jerry Burkett, II earned the save with three innings pitched for four hits, one earned run, three walks, and facing 16 batters.
Michael Lorenz suffered the loss for Alcorn with 3.1 innings pitched for three hits, one earned run, two walks, two wild pitches, and faced 16 batters.
The Braves will close the series with Southern on Sunday, March 23 in Smith-Wills Stadium. The first pitch is set for 1 p.m.
