STARKVILLE, Miss. – Alcorn State University softball traveled to Starkville, Miss. to compete in the Bulldog Invitational hosted by Mississippi State University this past weekend. The Lady Braves went head-to-head with the host school, the University of Southern Mississippi, and Troy University. ASU finished the weekend, 0-4.
Game One
    In Saturday's first game, Alcorn fell to Southern Mississippi, 1-8. The Lady Braves scored one run on two hits while committing no errors.
Paris Thompson went 1-of-2 and batted one run in. Jamyiyah Cotton went 1-of-3 at the plate while Shiloh Watts scored one run and stole two bases.
    The Lady Golden Eagles scored eight runs on eight hits while committing no errors. Lauren Lindsey went 1-of-3, scored two runs, batted one in, and hit a home run. Shelby Allen went 1-of-2, scored one run, and batted one in. Hannah Borden went 1-of-5 at the plate and batted one in. Natalie Taylor went 1-of-4, scored a run, and batted one in. Kayla Agner went 1-of-3, scored two runs, and one batted in. Ryanna Valdivia went 2-of-4 at the plate and scored one run. Maria Smith went 1-of-2 at the plate and scored a run.
    Marissa Frederick (3-1) picked up the win for USM with seven innings pitched allowing two hits, one run, four walks, one strikeout, and faced 27 batters.
Ashanti Carter (0-2) suffered the loss for Alcorn with 4.1 innings pitched allowing five hits, four earned runs, six walks, three strikeouts, and faced 24 batters.
Game Two
    The second game saw the Lady Braves defeated by the Lady Bulldogs, 2-13. Alcorn scored two runs on 12 hits while committing an error. Thompson went 1-of-2 at the plate and scored one run. Cotten went 1-of-2 at the plate and scored a run.
Kiri Parker went 1-of-2 at the plate with a double and one run batted in.
    Mississippi State scored 13 runs on 10 hits while committing one error. Nadia Barbary went 2-of-3, scored one run, hit a home run, and batted four runs in. Ella Wesolowski went 1-of-1, scored a run, hit a home run, and batted two in. Riley Hill went 2-of-2 at the plate and scored a run. Jessie Blaine went 2-of-2, scored a run, and batted two runs in. Aquana Brownlee went 1-of-2 and finished with two RBI. Kylee Edwards went 1-of-3 at the plate and scored one run. Jady Burney went 1-of-1, scored a run and batted one in.
    Lexi Sosa (3-1) picked up the win for Lady Bulldogs with four innings pitched allowing three hits, one earned hit, five strikeouts, and faced 15 batters.
Kiri Parker suffered the loss for Alcorn with four innings pitched allowing 10 hits, 13 earned runs, nine walks, one strikeout, a wild pitch, and faced 32 batters.
Game Three
    The second day of play saw the Alcorn defeated by Troy, 0-4. The Lady Braves scored no runs with one hit while committing an error.
Kelsey Lockridge notched ASU's only hit.
    Troy scored four runs on seven hits while committing no errors. Libby Baker went 2-of-3 while scoring a run and batting one in. Audra Thompson went 1-of-3 at the plate and scored a run with one RBI. Anslee Finch went 1-of-2 at the plate and batted a run in.
    Olivia Cato (1-1) got the win for the Lady Trojans pitching seven innings allowing a hit, a walk, seven strikeouts, and faced 23 batters.
Parker (2-7) suffered the loss for the Lady Braves pitching six innings allowing seven hits, four runs (three earned), two walks, three strikeouts, two wild pitches, and faced 28 batters.
Game Four
    In the closing game against Mississippi State, ASU was defeated, 0-15, in five innings. Alcorn scored no runs with three hits while committing no errors.
Kristian Edwards went 2-of-3 at the plate while
Samantha Rodriguez went 1-of-2.
    The Lady Bulldog scored 15 runs on six hits while committing one error. Edwards batted four in and scored two runs. Barbary went 1-of-2, batted two in, and scored a run. Blaine batted a run in and scored one. Sierra Sacco went 1-of-2 and scored two runs. Megan Davidson scored a run and batted two in.
    Delainey Everett (1-0) snapped up the win for MSU with five innings pitched allowing three hits, two walks, fanned four batters and faced 20.
Rodriguez suffered the loss for Alcorn as she faced seven batters resulting in five hits and five runs.
    The Lady Braves will be back on the diamond at Alcorn Softball Complex from March 8-9. Alcorn will host Grambling State University in a single game on Friday, March 8 at 4 p.m. and a double header on Saturday, March 9 starting at 1 p.m.
