LORMAN, Miss. – Alcorn State University men's basketball hang on to get their eighth straight win over Mississippi Valley State University on Thursday night. The Lady Braves battled with the Delta Devils and won to the sound of 74-67. With the win, Alcorn moves to 13-17, overall, 12-5 in Southwestern Athletic Conference and sits pretty in second place as tournament play looms.
    The Braves outscored Mississippi Valley in the paint, 30-22, second chance points, 14-8, fast break points, 13-11, and points from the bench, 34-22. To seal the victory, Alcorn put the pedal to the floor and scored 42 points in the second half compared to MVSU's 33.

Jeremiah Gambrell led the way for Alcorn State with 17 points, two rebounds, and two steals.
Stephen Byard put up 14 points, four rebounds, and two assists.
Dekedran Thorn scored 13 points, pulled down four boards, and had four dishes.
Michael Pajeaud rounded out the top scorers with 11 points, four rebounds, and one assist.
Byron Joshua finished the night with a game-high nine assists.
    The team went 53.7 percent from the field and 75 percent from the free throw line.
    Mississippi Valley State (1-29, 1-16 SWAC) was led by Danny Washington with 17 points and five assists. Rayquan Brown contributed 12 points and six rebounds.
    Collectively, the Delta Devils went 52.1 percent from the field and 56.3 percent from the stripe.
    The Braves will be back in Davey L. Whitney Complex on Saturday, March 9 for Senior Night as they host the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Tip off is set for 3 p.m.
