Men's Basketball Loses Heartbreaker To FAMU, 65-64

 
LORMAN – Alcorn State men's basketball narrowly missed a comeback victory, falling 65-64 to Florida A&M in a hard-fought SWAC matchup on Saturday afternoon at the Davey L. Whitney Health & Physical Education Complex. Despite leading at halftime, the Braves were unable to withstand a late surge by the Rattlers.

Djahi Binet delivered a standout performance for the Braves with 13 points and 16 rebounds, his most dominant game on the glass this season. Davian Williams added 15 points off the bench, going 4-for-6 from beyond the arc, while Julian Lual contributed nine points and six rebounds.

The Braves controlled much of the first half but struggled to find consistent scoring in the second. Florida A&M capitalized on key three-pointers and late free throws to secure the win in a game that saw two lead changes and one tie.

First Half – Alcorn 37, Florida A&M 25
  • Alcorn came out firing, with Williams hitting three early three-pointers to spark a 12-4 run.
  • Binet dominated inside, grabbing eight first-half rebounds and scoring six points.
  • The Braves forced 10 turnovers in the half, converting them into 15 points and building a 12-point lead heading into the break.
Second Half – Florida A&M 65, Alcorn 64
  • Florida A&M opened the half on a 10-3 run, cutting Alcorn's lead to five within the first four minutes.
  • Sterling Young caught fire for the Rattlers, scoring 19 points, including three three-pointers, to fuel their comeback.
  • Binet and Lual kept the Braves close with key baskets, while Marcus Tankersley hit a pair of free throws to tie the game at 62 with under two minutes remaining.
  • Florida A&M's Sterling Young hit a clutch three-pointer with 30 seconds left, giving the Rattlers a two-point lead. A late layup attempt by Alcorn fell short, sealing the victory for the visitors.
