LORMAN – In a thrilling start to SWAC play, Alcorn State's women's basketball team battled until the final moments but fell short to Jackson State, 67-64, on Saturday afternoon at the Davey L. Whitney Health & Physical Education Complex.
Destiny Brown led the Lady Braves with 16 points and eight rebounds, including 8-for-12 showing from the free-throw line.
Zy'Nyia White added 15 points and four rebounds, while
Kiarra Henderson chipped in 10 points and three rebounds. Despite a strong fourth-quarter push, the Lady Braves were unable to overcome Jackson State's late-game composure.

First Quarter – Jackson State 11, Alcorn 10
- Both teams started with strong defensive intensity, keeping the game tight.
- Zy'Nyia White scored four points in the opening period, while the Lady Braves forced five turnovers to stay within one at the buzzer.
Second Quarter – Jackson State 28, Alcorn 25
- Destiny Brown came alive in the paint, scoring six points and grabbing three rebounds.
- Kiarra Henderson added a critical fast-break layup to help Alcorn keep pace.
- Jackson State's Taleah Dilworth hit a late jumper to give the visitors a three-point halftime lead.
Third Quarter – Jackson State 49, Alcorn 44
- The Lady Braves continued to chip away, with White and Brown combining for 10 points in the quarter.
- Nakia Cheathman nailed a three-pointer to spark an Alcorn rally, but Jackson State's hot shooting from beyond the arc kept them ahead.
- The Lady Braves outscored Jackson State in points off turnovers, showcasing their tenacious defense.
Fourth Quarter – Jackson State 67, Alcorn 64
- Alcorn mounted a fierce comeback, led by Brown and White, who combined for 13 points in the final frame.
- Henderson's free throws brought the Lady Braves within three, and a late layup by Cheathman cut the deficit to two with under a minute remaining.
- Jackson State's clutch free-throw shooting in the final seconds sealed the game.
