LORMAN, Miss. — The Alcorn State University volleyball team fell in straight sets to Southern University (25-15, 25-16, 25-14) Friday evening inside the Davey L. Whitney Health & Physical Education Complex. The loss dropped the Lady Braves to 1–15 overall and 0–3 in SWAC play.
Despite a strong home crowd of 112 fans, Alcorn showed determination throughout the match, battling through long rallies and recording nine ties and five lead changes across the three sets. However, the Lady Braves struggled to find their rhythm offensively, finishing with a .000 hitting percentage.
Courtney Carter and Jessika Martinez led the attack with four kills each, while Juliana Henao contributed nine assists, four digs, and an ace. Kasey Watkins added energy from the service line with three aces and six digs, helping the Lady Braves stay competitive in key stretches.
The Lady Braves will look to bounce back on Sunday when they host Grambling State at the Davey L. Whitney Complex.
