LORMAN, Miss. – Alcorn State volleyball delivered a commanding performance Monday night, sweeping Arkansas-Pine Bluff (25-12, 29-27, 25-18) inside the Davey L. Whitney Complex.
The Lady Braves came out strong in the opening frame, hitting .542 as they rolled to a 25-12 win. Courtney Carter set the tone early, registering six kills and a block, while Kyla Powell added four kills and a service ace.
The second set proved tightly contested, featuring several lead changes before Alcorn edged out a 29-27 victory. Carter continued to dominate at the net with another six kills, and setter Juliana Henao controlled the offense with nine assists and two service aces. Powell and Rylan Jones chipped in timely points to help the Braves take a 2-0 lead.
In the third set, Alcorn maintained its rhythm, using an efficient team effort to close the match 25-18. Carter finished with a match-high 17 kills on a .393 hitting percentage, followed by Henao with nine kills and 32 assists. Powell tallied nine kills, while libero Tomoni Giddings anchored the defense with 14 digs.
As a team, the Lady Braves totaled 10 blocks to UAPB's four, with Henao and Kayla Jones combining for key stops at the net.
Alcorn improves to 3-24 overall and 2-12 in SWAC play. The Lady Braves return to the court this weekend to close out their home slate, hosting Alabama A&M on Thursday, November 14, followed by Alabama State on Saturday, November 16, inside the Davey L. Whitney Complex.
