COLLEGE PARK, MD – Alcorn State men's basketball dropped an 84-64 decision to Maryland Tuesday night inside the XFINITY Center.
Jameel Morris paced the Braves with 22 points, shooting 9-for-12 from the field and 3-for-5 from three-point range. Travis Roberts added 14 points on four made threes, while Shane Lancaster contributed 10 points and two assists.
The Braves shot 44 percent from the field and 39 percent from beyond the arc, but Maryland's interior play proved decisive. The Terrapins held a 34-24 advantage in points in the paint and outrebounded Alcorn 37-25.
Alcorn trailed 33-27 at halftime and pulled within single digits early in the second half before Maryland used a 12-0 run to pull away. The Braves' bench provided a lift, contributing 38 points on the night.
Pharrel Payne led Maryland with 22 points and seven rebounds, while Andre Mills added 16 points and eight rebounds.
Alcorn State remains on the road until conference play, continuing its nonconference slate Thursday at Howard. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
