LORMAN, Miss. - Alcorn State put together a strong offensive showing Wednesday evening, defeating Arkansas Baptist 81-65 inside the Davey L. Whitney Complex. The Lady Braves shot nearly 50 percent from the field and knocked down 11 three-pointers on the night, improving to 2-2 on the young season.
Maya Claytor led the charge from the perimeter with 12 points on four made threes, while
Arene Iyekekpolor delivered an all-around performance with 11 points, four rebounds, and a steal.
Chrishunti Walker added nine points and three rebounds, and
Dalayja Hurt-Floyd finished with six points, three boards, and five assists.
Nakia Cheatham sparked the bench with a team-high 16 points, nine rebounds, four assists, four steals, and two blocks, providing a major lift throughout the night. Ja'Sharreah Hunt poured in 11 points on 3-for-4 shooting from deep, and Kiarra Henderson controlled the paint with 8 rebounds and a game-high 10 assists to go along with four points and two steals.
Jazlyn Johnson chipped in five points, while Lauren Nelson added four points and five rebounds. Frances Anyakudo and Milaan Moore each contributed valuable minutes, with Anyakudo scoring late to push Alcorn over the 80-point mark.
The Lady Braves used a 31-point second quarter to take command, building a halftime lead they never surrendered. Alcorn held a 50-18 advantage on the glass and piled up 39 points from the bench in the victory.
Alcorn State returns to action on the road Monday, November 20, when the Lady Braves travel to Baton Rouge to face LSU at 7 p.m. on their first Power Five matchup of the season.
