Alcorn State Falls Short at Howard, 72–64

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Alcorn State put together one of its most competitive outings of the early season but was unable to overcome a strong second-half push from Howard, falling 72–64 Thursday afternoon inside Burr Gymnasium.

The Braves received balanced scoring across the lineup, with Jameel Morris leading the effort with 15 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Morris sparked several second-half runs with his ability to attack the lane and finish in transition, while also adding two assists and four steals. Tycen McDaniels delivered another dependable performance, posting 14 points, seven rebounds, three steals, and providing a consistent interior presence. Davian Williams chipped in 11 points, including a trio of three-pointers that helped Alcorn stay within striking distance.

Early on, the Braves were strong defensively and kept the game tight, trailing just 28–23 at halftime. Alcorn opened the second half with renewed energy, as McDaniels and Morris combined to cut into the deficit. Omari Hamilton gave the Braves a lift off the bench, adding six points and four rebounds while finishing through contact in the paint. Shane Lancaster contributed five points and helped apply backcourt pressure during Alcorn's late push.

Despite the effort, Howard found ways to create separation through timely offensive rebounds and second-chance points, finishing with a 16–2 advantage in that area. The Bison also capitalized in transition, outscoring Alcorn 19–11 on fast-break opportunities.

Alcorn shot 41 percent from the floor and a strong 83 percent at the free-throw line, while its bench supplied 28 points. The Braves continued to show growth, battling until the final minute in a matchup that featured several stretches of momentum on both sides.

Alcorn State now shifts its attention to another road test, heading to LSU on November 18.
