NORMAN, OK - Alcorn State battled through a competitive first half but could not keep pace after the break, dropping a 72-53 decision to Oklahoma on Sunday afternoon at the Lloyd Noble Center. The Braves trailed just 35-33 at halftime before the Sooners used a decisive second-half surge to pull away.
Nick Woodard led Alcorn with nine points, all coming in the opening period as he knocked down three triples. Tycen McDaniels added 12 points and six rebounds, showing steady production throughout the day. Bryson Calamese finished with 11 points, including a pair of three-pointers, while Shane Lancaster and Jameel Morris each chipped in timely baskets that helped the Braves stay within striking distance early.
Alcorn shot 42.9 percent in the first half and connected on six three-pointers to keep the Sooners off balance. The Braves also saw strong minutes from Omari Hamilton, who totaled five rebounds, and Mike Jones, who added eight boards of his own. However, Oklahoma controlled the offensive glass in the second half and converted second-chance opportunities to extend its lead. The Sooners outscored the Braves 37-20 after halftime and held Alcorn to 32 percent shooting over the final 20 minutes.Â
Despite the outcome, Alcorn showed stretches of sharp ball movement, timely shooting, and defensive effort, including four blocks led by McDaniels and Calamese. The Braves' bench contributed 20 points, highlighted by Calamese's strong scoring and Roberts' work at the rim.
Alcorn State now turns its attention to tournament play. The Braves will face Indiana State on November 28 in the Louisiana Tech Tournament.Â
