TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Alcorn State men's basketball opened its 2025-26 season on the road Tuesday night, falling 108-76 to Florida State inside the Donald L. Tucker Center.
Nick Woodard paced the Braves with 16 points and six rebounds on 7-of-10 shooting. Tycen McDaniels followed with 14 points, six rebounds, and a steal, while Davian Williams added 13 points, six boards, and a team-high eight assists. Shane Lancaster contributed 12 points off the bench, connecting on 3-of-4 shots from the floor and 2-of-2 from three-point range.
As a team, Alcorn shot an efficient 51 percent (26-of-51) from the field and 50 percent (8-of-16) from beyond the arc, though turnovers (21) and a 59 percent clip from the free-throw line limited the offensive rhythm.
Florida State countered with a balanced effort, led by Chauncey Wiggins' 22 points and five rebounds. Lajae Jones added 18 points, while Alex Steen and Robert McCray each scored 12. The Seminoles shot 55.7 percent from the field and hit 13 three-pointers in the win.
Alcorn trailed 58-44 at halftime before Florida State pulled away in the second half behind a 16-7 run early in the period. The Braves outscored the Seminoles 26-24 in the paint and held their own on the boards, finishing with 33 rebounds to FSU's 36.
The Braves (0-1) will continue their road swing Thursday, Nov. 6, when they travel to Mobile to take on South Alabama at 7 p.m.
