LORMAN, Miss. – Alcorn State powered past Southern University 35-17 on Saturday afternoon at Jack Spinks–Marino Casem Stadium, riding a dominant rushing performance and a balanced offensive effort to earn its fourth win of the season.

The Braves (4-6, 3-3 SWAC) controlled the game after a slow start, piling up 378 yards of total offense, including 259 on the ground, while holding the Jaguars (1-9, 0-6 SWAC) to just 74 rushing yards.

After falling behind 7-0 early, Alcorn responded in the second quarter as lineman Cameran Rogers punched in a one-yard touchdown to tie the game. Moments later, Jarvis Rush capped a 9-play, 84-yard drive with a 4-yard touchdown run to give the Braves a 14-7 lead.

Quarterback Jaylon Tolbert continued his efficient play, rushing for a 7-yard score midway through the third quarter and tossing touchdown passes to Omarion Blakes (18 yards) and Tylon Citizen (5 yards). Tolbert finished 12-of-22 for 119 yards and two touchdowns while adding 41 yards and a rushing score on the ground.

Running back Reggie Davis led the ground attack with 110 yards on 17 carries, while Carl McDonald Jr. added 43 yards on eight attempts. Rush also contributed 28 rushing yards and a score, as Alcorn averaged 5.4 yards per carry.

Blakes paced the receiving corps with three catches for 28 yards and a touchdown. Warren, Sandifer, and Kaho each added multiple receptions in a balanced aerial effort.

Defensively, Cedric Roberts anchored the unit with eight total tackles and a tackle for loss, while Bakari McCall and Stemarion Edwards each added three stops. Eric Thomas Jr. recorded Alcorn's lone sack as the Braves limited Southern to 4.1 yards per play and just one offensive touchdown.

The Braves improved to 3-1 at home and will close the regular season home contests on Nov. 15, hosting Grambling State for Senior Night at Jack Spinks–Marino Casem Stadium. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. on The Reservation.
