LORMAN, Miss. – Alcorn State volleyball dropped a home contest to Grambling State in straight sets (25-16, 25-23, 25-15) Sunday afternoon inside the Davey L. Whitney Complex.
Despite the loss, several Lady Braves turned in solid performances. Michaela Branner and Kyla Powell each recorded eight kills, while Jessika Martinez added four. Setter Juliana Henao guided the attack with 27 assists and contributed nine digs defensively. Libero Tomoni Giddings anchored the back row with a team-high 17 digs and three service aces.
Rylan Jones and Courtney Carter chipped in four kills apiece for Alcorn, while Kasey Watkins finished with seven digs and two kills. At the net, Branner and Powell combined for three total blocks as the Lady Braves tallied five team blocks overall.
Grambling's Jazmine Binion led all players with 12 kills, while Kenya Lucas added eight as the Tigers posted a .135 hitting percentage compared to Alcorn's .029.
The loss moved Alcorn to 7-17 overall and 5-8 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play.
The Lady Braves return to action tomorrow as they host Arkansas–Pine Bluff inside the Davey L. Whitney Complex. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
