WACO, Texas – Alcorn State men's basketball continued its challenging non conference slate Friday night, dropping a 113–56 decision to Baylor at Foster Pavilion. The game served as another valuable road test for a Braves squad facing one of the nation's most physical and efficient programs.
Alcorn State opened the contest with confidence, taking a brief 2–0 lead less than 30 seconds into the game on a Nick Woodard layup off an assist from Shane Lancaster. Lancaster was aggressive early and throughout the night, finishing with a team-high 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including two three-pointers, while adding two assists and two steals.
Baylor answered quickly with its depth and athleticism, using a high-tempo offense and efficient shooting to build momentum. The Bears shot 63 percent in the first half and went into the break with a 55–30 advantage. Alcorn State kept battling, generating scoring chances off turnovers and pushing the pace in transition, but Baylor's consistency on both ends proved difficult to slow.
Woodard finished with 11 points, connecting on three three-pointers, while Omari Hamilton added eight points and four rebounds in 19 minutes. Bryson Calamese contributed three points, three assists, and two steals, and Mike Jones pulled down four rebounds while providing energy on the glass. William Henderson and Tycen McDaniels each chipped in defensively, combining for multiple rebounds and steals.
As a team, the Braves forced 21 turnovers and converted several into fast-break opportunities, finishing with 17 fast-break points. Alcorn State also scored 30 points in the paint and shot 85.7 percent from the free-throw line, continuing to show growth in key areas despite the final margin.
Baylor's balance and depth ultimately took over in the second half, as the Bears extended the lead behind efficient shooting and strong rebounding, finishing the game shooting nearly 65 percent from the field.
The contest marked another step in Alcorn State's early-season journey, as the Braves continue to gain experience against high-level competition that will pay dividends heading into conference play.
Alcorn State returns to action on Sunday, Dec. 29, when the Braves travel to Oxford to face Ole Miss. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
