JACKSON, MS – Alcorn State baseball battled hard in both games of a Saturday afternoon doubleheader but fell to Jackson State, 19-6 in Game 1 and 13-3 in Game 2, at Smith Wills Stadium. Despite strong individual performances at the plate, the Braves were unable to keep pace with the Tigers' high-powered offense.
Reyfield Adams led Alcorn offensively, going a combined 3-for-7 with two runs scored and an RBI across both games.
Ben Martin and
Jaylon Burrell also provided offensive sparks, with Martin driving in a run in each game and Burrell reaching base multiple times. On the mound,
Hunter Bell and
Kanious Davis made starts for the Braves but were unable to slow down a relentless Jackson State attack.
Alcorn showed flashes of offensive momentum, including a three-run fourth inning in Game 1 and a late push in Game 2. However, Jackson State capitalized on key defensive miscues and timely hitting to secure the sweep.
GAME 1: Jackson State 19, Alcorn State 6
First Three Innings – Jackson State 5, Alcorn 1
- Alcorn struck first in the top of the first inning as Adams singled and later scored on a Nathan Gamez RBI single.
- Jackson State responded immediately, tying the game in the bottom of the first and adding four runs in the third behind a pair of doubles.
Middle Innings – Jackson State 13, Alcorn 6
- The Braves exploded for a three-run fourth inning as Martin, Adams, and Mason Duke each recorded RBIs.
- Jackson State answered back with four runs of their own in the fourth and another four in the fifth, taking a commanding lead.
- The Braves tacked on two more runs in the sixth, but Jackson State's offense continued to roll.
Final Innings – Jackson State 19, Alcorn 6
- The Tigers put the game out of reach with a six-run seventh inning, including a grand slam from Nazhir Bergen.
- Alcorn managed 11 hits in the game but left multiple runners stranded in key situations.
GAME 2: Jackson State 13, Alcorn State 3
First Three Innings – Jackson State 6, Alcorn 0
- Jackson State took control early, scoring four runs in the first inning behind a pair of RBI singles.
- The Braves struggled to find their rhythm at the plate, recording just one hit through the first three innings.
Middle Innings – Jackson State 8, Alcorn 2
- Alcorn broke through in the fifth inning when Chris Tillman tripled and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Dillon Brown.
- Ben Martin added an RBI double in the sixth, scoring Kalum Banks to trim the deficit.
- Jackson State responded with two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to keep control.
Final Innings – Jackson State 13, Alcorn 3
- The Braves managed to score a final run in the seventh as Adams singled and came around on a throwing error.
- Jackson State sealed the win with three more runs in the bottom of the seventh, taking advantage of Alcorn pitching struggles.
