LORMAN – Alcorn State women's basketball delivered a commanding performance on Saturday afternoon, securing a 61-39 victory over Prairie View A&M at the Davey L. Whitney Health & Physical Education Complex. The Lady Braves (11-16, 9-7 SWAC) controlled the game from the opening tip, using a suffocating defensive effort to limit Prairie View (9-17, 6-11 SWAC) to just 28.2% shooting from the field.
Sharmayne Finley led the Lady Braves with nine points, while
Zy'Nyia White and Maya Claytor each added eight points.
Destiny Brown was a force inside, contributing seven points, four rebounds, and a block. Nakia Cheathman and
Kiarra Henderson also made an impact, with Henderson scoring five points and pulling down five rebounds. Alcorn's bench played a major role, outscoring Prairie View's reserves 31-9.
The Lady Braves took control in the first half, building a double-digit lead by halftime and never looking back. A dominant
defensive second quarter saw Alcorn outscore Prairie View 13-3, allowing just one field goal in the period.
