VICKSBURG, Miss. – Alcorn State women's soccer opened its 2025 campaign Sunday afternoon at Key City Park, falling 3-1 in front of a spirited home crowd.
Troy struck first in the 16th minute to take the early advantage, but the Lady Braves responded quickly. Sophomore forward Michelle Lesmes Diaz found the back of the net in the 27th minute off an assist from Iesha Rollins, recording Alcorn's first goal of the season and pulling the match level at 1-1.
Just before halftime, the Lady Braves conceded again, allowing Troy to carry a 2-1 lead into the break. Another goal early in the second half extended the deficit
to 3-1, and despite late pushes from Rollins and Valentina Bernal, the comeback effort fell short.
Alcorn managed three shots in the contest, two on target, while goalkeeper Maria Heuman recorded two saves in her 90 minutes of action. The visitors outshot the Lady Braves 8-3 and held a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.
With the loss, Alcorn moves to 0-1 on the season. The Lady Braves will look to bounce back in their next outing as they continue non-conference play.
