LAKE CHARLES, LA – The Alcorn State women's soccer team showed resilience on the road Sunday afternoon, rallying in the second half to earn a 3-3 draw against McNeese State at Cowgirl Field.
The Lady Braves opened the match with early momentum as Grace Ambrose scored in the sixth minute off an assist from Annick Zouma, putting Alcorn ahead 1-0. However, McNeese responded with three goals in a seven-minute span late in the first half to carry a 3-1 lead into the break.
Undeterred, Alcorn mounted a determined comeback. Ambrose struck again in the 81st minute with an unassisted goal to cut the deficit to one. Just five minutes later, freshman forward Deryn Doamekpor netted the equalizer, also unassisted, bringing the score level at 3-3.
Ambrose led the offensive attack with four shots, three on target, and two goals. Doamekpor added her second goal of the season, while Zouma contributed an assist. Goalkeeper Bame Mokime anchored the defense, making seven saves to help preserve the tie.
Overall, McNeese outshot Alcorn 18-10, but the Lady Braves made the most of their chances, putting seven shots on goal compared to the Cowgirls' ten. The second half showcased Alcorn's determination as they fought through pressure and created the goals needed to secure the result.
With the draw, Alcorn moves to 1-2-1 on the season, while McNeese sits at 1-3-2.
The Lady Braves will return to action next weekend as they travel to Jacksonville, Alabama to face Jacksonville State on September 5. Kick-off set for 6:00 p.m.
