LORMAN, Miss.- The Alcorn State Lady Braves took the floor Tuesday afternoon in Monroe, Louisiana, at Fant-Ewing Coliseum, battling the ULM Warhawks in non-conference volleyball. Though the Lady Braves came up short in three sets (17-25, 10-25, 10-25), the team showed steady effort and flashes of progress as they continued their 2025 campaign.
Offensively, Alcorn posted 14 total kills on 81 attempts, led by
Kyla Powell, who turned in 4 kills on a .300 hitting percentage.
Rylan Jones followed with 2 kills and contributed 3 points overall, while
Tomoni Giddings added 1 kill along with a team-high 11 digs, proving her value on both ends of the court. Ma'kayla Coats,
Cristin Webb, and
Kyla Davis also chipped in with a kill apiece.
The Lady Braves' passing and defense were highlights in the match. Alcorn finished with 39 total digs, paced by Giddings' 11 and
Courtney Carter's 3 blocks at the net. Mims guided the offense with 6 assists, while Carter and Branner both provided additional defensive support with 3 digs each.
At the net, the Lady Braves tallied 4 block assists and 2 solo blocks, showing their ability to contest ULM's attack. Alcorn also collected 14 total assists and 17 points as a team, spreading the contributions across the lineup.
Despite ULM's efficient .252 hitting percentage and strong serving performance, Alcorn battled throughout each set and continued to grow in areas of defense, serve receive, and passing.
The Lady Braves now turn their attention to the upcoming match against Nicholls State University on September 17, looking forward to continued growth and stronger showings on the court.
