LORMAN, Miss.- The Alcorn volleyball team put together a gritty effort on Wednesday afternoon at David R. Stopher Gymnasium. The Braves competed set for set in a close match against Nicholls, finishing with set scores of 25–27, 14–25, and 14–25, keeping the crowd of 388 engaged with extended rallies.
Freshman
Rylan Jones led the Braves on offense with 9 kills, finishing with a team-high 10 points.
Courtney Carter added 7 kills and 10 digs, while
Kyla Powell contributed 3 kills and 8 digs.
Bailey Upshaw chipped in 2 kills, 1 block and a service ace.
Setter
Erin Mims helped pace the offense with 14 assists and contributed 4 digs, while
Tomoni Giddings anchored the back row with 10 digs.
Jessika Martinez and
Michaela Branner also contributed defensively with digs and a block assist, showing depth across the lineup.
As a team, Alcorn tallied 33 kills, 41 digs, 6 blocks, 23 assists, and 2 service aces, showcasing strong teamwork and effort throughout the match.
The Braves now turn their attention to Memphis, where they will face Christian Brothers University in the CBU Tri-Match. The team looks forward to building on today's competitive start and continuing to grow as SWAC play approaches.
