Memphis, Tenn. – Alcorn volleyball put together one of its most balanced offensive outings of the season but came up short in a 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-21) loss to Arkansas–Monticello on Saturday afternoon at the Canale Arena Tri-Match.
The Braves fought through three competitive sets, tallying 31 kills as a team while pushing the Cotton Blossoms (3-6, 0-0 GAC) in sets two and three. The match featured nine tie scores and nine lead changes, showing Alcorn's resilience down the stretch.
Sophomore outside hitter
Rylan Jones led the Braves with 11 kills on a .455 hitting percentage, finishing with 12.0 points and adding a block.
Jessika Martinez chipped in five kills on a .273 clip, while
Kyla Powell posted five kills, two service aces, and four digs for seven points.
Courtney Carter added five kills, three digs, and a service ace.
Setter
Juliana Henao guided the offense with 18 assists, one ace, and three digs, while defensively, Alcorn collected 32 digs as a team, led by contributions from
Kasey Watkins (7) and
Erin Mims (5).
As a team, the Braves finished with 31 kills, six service aces, and 32 digs, while hitting .132 for the match. Arkansas–Monticello countered with 39 kills, a .245 hitting percentage, and 40 digs.
Alcorn will continue play at the Canale Arena Tri-Match later today against Christian Brothers University.
