Memphis, Tenn. – Alcorn volleyball opened strong with a first-set victory but ultimately dropped a 3-1 decision to Christian Brothers on Saturday afternoon at the Canale Arena Tri-Match.
The Braves came out aggressive in set one, hitting .271 with 17 kills to claim a tight 26-24 win. Christian Brothers responded with three straight set wins, holding Alcorn to a .179 hitting percentage overall despite several standout performances.
Courtney Carter led the Braves with nine kills on a .273 hitting clip, while
Rylan Jones and
Kyla Powell each tallied nine points. Jones also added a block and eight kills. Powell contributed nine kills as well, pairing her offense with 11 digs.
Juliana Henao directed the offense with 21 assists and three digs, while
Tomoni Giddings anchored the defense with a team-high 15 digs.
Kasey Watkins added five digs and two kills on a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage.
As a team, Alcorn finished with 35 kills, 30 assists, 48 digs, and two service aces. The Braves will look to regroup as they close out play at the Canale Arena Tri-Match later this evening.
