Morton Draws Up a Winner Against Bethune-Cookman

Braves defeat Wildcats on last-second shot

LORMAN, Miss. – A baseline lob from Jameel Morris to a crashing Shane Lancaster with four seconds left allowed the Braves to record a thrilling 57-55 come-from-behind win over conference-leading Bethune-Cookman in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Men's Basketball affair taking place inside Davey L. Whitney Complex in Lorman, Mississippi.

The win for Alcorn (6-18, 5-7 SWAC) allows the Braves to move to 4-1 all-time at home against Bethune-Cookman (13-12, 10-2 SWAC). Also, it is the first time all season the Braves have won back-to-back games, as Alcorn defeated Mississippi Valley State last Monday in Itta Bena, Mississippi.

Braves Standouts
Omari Hamilton led all Braves with 11 points, followed by Shane Lancaster with 10 points.
Davian Williams knocked down his only three-pointer attempted – and the only one in the game for the Purple and Gold.
• Overall, Williams was 3-for-4 shooting from the field.
Tycen McDaniels led the Braves in rebounding with six, adding seven points in the contest as well.
• Calamese and Lancaster combined for four of Alcorn's six assists.

How It Happened
• After leading 6-2 early-on from a Nick Woodard jumper just inside the three-point arc, Alcorn would soon fall behind 11-6 after a Tyler Andrews three-point basket.
• An Arterio Morris driving layup stemming from an Alcorn turnover pushed the visitors lead to 25-12 just before the under-eight media timeout in the opening half.
• BCU led 32-18 before started and ended a 6-0 Alcorn run before the end of the half.
• The Wildcats shot 60 percent in the opener, while limiting the Braves to just 36 percent shooting from the field.
• Another Morris putback layup with 13:24 showing on the clock in the second half allowed the Wildcats to hold a 43-32 lead.
• The Purple and Gold mounted a 15-3 run over the course of the next four minutes that saw the Braves cut the deficit at 47-46.
• During the run, it was Bryson Calamese and Tycen McDaniels providing much of the spark for the Braves.
• Alcorn took its first lead since the opening minutes of the first half on the strength of a Davian Williams three-pointer that put the Braves up 51-49.
• Seneca Willoughby put the Cats back up 55-53 with 4:35 remaining before a Jameel Morris driving layup for Alcorn knotted the contest at 55-55.
• With four seconds remaining, Lancaster scampered down the lane untouched to accept the lob off the inbounds from Jameel Morris, as he connected on the driving layup for the win.
• For the Braves, it is the second time in the last three years they have defeated Bethune-Cookman in last-second fashion, doing the same in 2023 on a buzzer-beater.
• Alcorn shot just 1 of 8 from three-point land on the afternoon.
• The Wildcats outrebounded the Braves, 29-17, but it was Alcorn scoring 23 points off 23 BCU turnovers.
