Houston Christian Takes Series Opener

Alcorn looks to even things in game two

HOUSTON – Levi Castilleja delivered two hits and two RBIs Friday evening to lift Houston Christian to a 12-0 series opening baseball win over visiting Alcorn at Husky Field in Houston, Texas.

Houston Christian (1-5) got to Alcorn starter Devin Kriley early as the left-hander was chased after just an inning of work.

The Huskies batted around and scored six runs in the home-half of the first inning, as Tyree Jackson's three-run double off the wall in straightaway center field advanced the Huskies lead out to 6-0.

The hosts opened the game's scoring with a Rhett Hendricks two-run double to right, scoring Jack Walker and Katcher Halligan, respectfully.

Hunter Bell would relieve Kriley in the second on the bump for Alcorn (1-4). Bell was effective for the Braves in 2.2 innings out of the bullpen, as he allowed just two runs on one hit and four strikeouts.

HCU tacked on an additional two runs in the fourth inning using a Walker single to center that plated Jackson, as well as a Halligan sacrifice fly to eventually bring in Walker for the 8-0 lead.

Levi Castilleja collected one of his two hits on the night in the sixth with a double to shallow left, allowing Preston Curtis to come in for the score. The lead would become 12-0 with an Anthony Avalos run-scoring single to left in order to bring around Castilleja.

The win went to Houston Christian starter Joshua Carvalho (1-1) as he evened his record for the year with six strong innings on the rubber, allowing just one hit and striking out seven. The loss went to Alcorn's Kriley (0-2) who worked an inning, being struck for six runs on four hits, two walks and collecting a strikeout.

The Huskies bats were led by three different players with multiple hits on the night, including Castilleja's 2-for-4 showing with two runs and two RBIs.

Kanious Davis turned in a 1-for-3 night at the dish for the Braves.

Game two of the series is set for Saturday, Feb. 21, at 2 p.m.
