Women’s Tennis Suffers Defeat to UNO

Braves drop home match to visiting Privateers

VICKSBURG, Miss. – The University of New Orleans took a 4-0 decision from Alcorn Women's Tennis on Thursday afternoon in a non-conference match played at Hall's Ferry Tennis Court in Vicksburg, Mississippi.

Alcorn (3-9) saw the doubles combo of freshmen Amelia Tatafu and Hana Bajramovic own a 4-1 advantage at the No. 1 position until the match went unfinished due to the doubles point overall being captured by the visitors.

Fleur Sprengers and Danique Vermue were able to defeat Alcorn's Zoe Crimmel and Oihane Villanueva Lopez at the No. 2 position, 6-0. And the point was captured by UNO with a 6-1 decision in spot three with the team of Ananya Dhankhar and Naila Krifa turning back the Braves team of Taylor Briffa and Natalija Nikolic.

In singles play, the Braves had a strong performance once again from Bajramovic on court two, as the Québec City, Québec native, split the first two sets with New Orleans' Kateryna Kalistratova. Bajramovic dropped the opener 0-6, before coming back to claim a 6-1 set win in the second. However, it was Kalistratova leading 2-1 in the third set when it went unfinished.

UNO (5-0) made it 2-0 in the match with Sprengers' win at No. 1 singles as she defeated Alcorn's Tatafu in straight sets – 6-2, 6-0. The second singles win came from the Privateers' Nouray Khaled courtesy a 6-2, 6-0 win in the No. 3 position as she defeated Zoe Crimmel.

The final singles win went the way of UNO's Dhankhar in the sixth spot as she claimed a 6-2, 6-4 win from the Braves Matea Andelic, respectively.

Alcorn Women's Tennis is back to the courts Sunday, Feb. 22, when the Braves visit Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) opponent Alabama State in Montgomery, Alabama, at 11 a.m.
