Kiarra Henderson topped four different Alcorn Women's Basketball players in double-digits scoring with 14 points on Thursday evening as the visiting Braves held off a robust Mississippi Valley State squad 75-72 for the Braves' seventh consecutive Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) win in a contest taking place at R.W. Harrison HPER Complex in Itta Bena, Mississippi.
For Alcorn (12-9, 9-1 SWAC) , the seven-game winning streak is the longest in more than two decades, surpassing the most recent run of six consecutive wins during the 2004-05 season.
In a back-and-forth affair, the visitors finally seized control late in the third quarter, holding on for what was Alcorn's first win over Mississippi Valley State (4-16, 3-6 SWAC) since March 7, 2024.
Braves Standouts

Nakia Cheatham scored 12 points – eight of those coming after halftime, for what was her 16th game of the 2025-26 season reaching double figures scoring.

Kiarra Henderson led all Braves scorers with 14 points, adding a team-high 11 rebounds for her second double-double of the campaign – and her second of its kind in the last four games.
•
Maya Hunkin-Claytor was 4 of 11 from beyond the arc, marking her fifth game of the campaign with four or more three-pointers made in a single contest.
•
Dalayja Hurt-Floyd was the catalyst on defense for Alcorn, grabbing in a team-high three steals, while she also provided five rebounds (four defensive).
• Henderson was also instrumental at the point guard position with a game-high matching five assists.
How It Happened
• Despite turning the ball over 14 times, the Braves forced Mississippi Valley State into 19 turnovers, with Alcorn capitalizing off those turnovers for 15 points.
• Mississippi Valley State outscored the visiting Braves in the paint by a 36-30 mark.
• Alcorn used the bench for 19 points, those coming from three different players –
Lauren Nelson (8),
Jazlyn Johnson (6) and
Arene Iyekekpolor (5).
• Alcorn shot just 54.5 percent from the free throw line on the night, while
Ja'Sharreah Hunt was a perfect 2-for-2 from the charity stripe for the Purple and Gold.
• After Hunkin-Claytor connected on a three-pointer with 2:10 remaining in the first quarter, Alcorn led 15-12.
• MVSU went on a 9-2 run in order to take a 21-17 advantage just before the end of the first quarter.
• The Delta Devilettes led by as many as nine on two separate occasions throughout the first 20 minutes, the latest being a 41-32 edge with 3:27 remaining in the first half.
• Mississippi Valley State carried a 47-39 advantage into the locker room, marking the second consecutive game the Braves had trailed at the break.
• A pair of Sydnei Marshall free throws put MVSU back up by nine (55-46) with 7:05 showing on the clock in the third quarter.
• However, Alcorn outscored MVSU 23-13 in the third period, using six points each from the likes of
Chrishunti Walker and Hunkin-Claytor, respectively.
• The Braves shot 38 percent from the field on the night, while the host Delta Devilettes registered a 40.3 percent shooting clip from the field – including a 33.3 percent touch from three-point range.
• Despite connecting on just two field goals in the fourth period, Alcorn managed to sink nine free throws to hold on for the win.
• Alcorn outscored MVSU in each of the third and fourth quarters, respectfully.
