PINE BLUFF, Ark. – Alcorn Men's Basketball looks to stop a three-game road losing streak this weekend when the Braves travel to Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) opponents Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Mississippi Valley State for a crucial road swing in the league standings. In all, the Braves have lost three of their last four games, but managed to grab a 78-73 win over Southern (La.) last Saturday in Lorman, Mississippi.

NEWS & NOTES
▪ Alcorn has lost three of its last four games, and has dropped three consecutive games on the road away from the Davey L. Whitney Complex. The last road win was a thrilling 64-62 victory over Alabama A&M in Huntsville, Alabama on January 10.
▪ Alcorn is averaging 66 points per game – second-lowest in the SWAC coming into the weekend. However, opponents are scoring 84.2 points per game in reverse.
▪ Opponents are shooting 51.1 percent from the floor, while the Braves connect on 41.7 percent from the field.
▪ Two players have eclipsed 200 points scoring for the Purple and Gold –
Shane Lancaster (240) and
Tycen McDaniels (215).
▪ Lancaster leads the outside shooting for the Braves with 42 three-pointers, followed nicely by
Davian Williams (29) and
Nick Woodard (23).
▪ The assists are handed out by point guard
Jameel Morris, as he owns 60 on the campaign. He currently ranks 13th in the SWAC in that category.
▪ McDaniels handles the board work for the Braves, owning a team-high 110 rebounds (5.2 rpg).
▪ Defensively, McDaniels also has a team-high 22 blocked shots and sits second on the squad with 24 steals.
ALCORN VS. ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF SERIES
▪ In the all-time series against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Alcorn owns a commanding 20-9 advantage dating back to 2011.
▪ The Braves have won the last 11 consecutive against the Golden Lions, including a season sweep last year.
▪ Alcorn won the first leg of last year's series, 79-60 in Lorman. The Braves then claimed a hard-fought 65-63 win in Pine Bluff.
▪ The last loss in the series for the Braves was a 73-62 setback in H.O. Clemmons Arena back on Feb. 18, 2019.
In fact, Alcorn has won 13 of the last 15 games in the series since 2018.
SCOUTING UAPB
▪ Arkansas-Pine Bluff enters the weekend sporting a 9-13 overall record, and holds a 6-3 mark in SWAC play.
▪ The Golden Lions are scoring at a 77.9 points per game clip, while allowing opponents an 83.8 points per game spell.
▪ UAPB shoots 44.4 percent from the floor, adding a 33.9 percent touch from three-point range.
Opponents are outrebounding the Golden Lions by three boards per game, as UAPB averages 34.5 per contest.
▪ The Golden Lions are forcing opponents into 12.5 turnovers per game.
▪ They enter the weekend on a three-game win streak having taken recent decisions from Grambling State, Mississippi Valley State and Southern (La.), respectively.
▪ Quion Williams is one of the league's top scorers with 382 points (17.4 ppg) and shooting at a 49.3 percent clip from the floor.
▪ Two of the SWAC's top three-point shooters are senior Alex Mirhosseini (49) and redshirt junior guard Trevon Payton (45).
▪ In fact, UAPB has five (5) players averaging double-digit scoring as Jaquan Scott (15.2 ppg) follows up Williams nicely, as well as freshman Milhan Charles (11.6 ppg) from France.
ALCORN VS. MISSISSIPPI VALLEY STATE SERIES
▪ With records dating back to 1977, Alcorn leads the all-time series against its in-state foe by a 55-38 margin.
▪ Alcorn has won the last 12 games consecutively in the series, and 17 of the last 18 overall dating back to 2017.
▪ Last year, the Braves won both home and away, claiming a 72-64 decision in Itta Bena, respectfully.
▪ Mississippi Valley State's last win over the Purple and Gold came courtesy a 76-68 count on Feb. 16, 2019, in Itta Bena.
▪ From 1977-85, Alcorn won six of seven against the Delta Devils, including two games in the Delta and one in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
SCOUTING MVSU
▪ Mississippi Valley State first plays Jackson State on Saturday, Feb. 7, before turning its sights to Alcorn on Monday evening.
▪ The Delta Devils enter the weekend still seeking their first win over a Division I opponent, as the Delta Devils are just 1-21 overall (0-8 SWAC), with the lone victory being a 96-61 victory over Mississippi University for Women in November.
▪ The Delta Devils are averaging 63.4 points per game – one of the lowest outputs in the SWAC, while opponents are scoring at an 85.5 points per game clip against them.
▪ MVSU is topped in scoring by Michael James with 435 points (20.7 ppg), connecting on a team-high 51 three-pointers in the process.
▪ Teammate Daniel Mayfield is shooting 41.9 percent from the floor and scoring 12.4 points per game in the process.
▪ Lamont Sams provides much of the Delta Devils defense with 19 blocked shots and 79 rebounds (4.6 rpg).
▪ Topping the squad overall in rebounds is Mayfield with 107 boards (6.3 per game).
