Braves Tennis Stumbles at Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alcorn Men's Tennis fought tough, but the Braves were unable to capture victory on Sunday evening as Alabama rose to a 7-0 decision at Alabama Tennis Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
 
Alabama (7-7) out of the Southeastern Conference (SEC) wasted little time seizing control, claiming the doubles point by winning two of three doubles matches before the third was completed.
 
Matic Kriznik and Jacob Olar cruised past Alcorn's tandem of Matthew Holl and Vicent Llobell Buigues 6-2 at the No. 1 position. And the doubles point was decided with the Alabama pair of Rohan Hazratwala and Brendan Loh staking a 6-2 win over Alcorn's Sebastian Griffiths and Fabian Juarez on court two.
 
Alcorn (3-11) stood strong in doubles to take a total of seven games, respectfully.
 
The homestanding Crimson Tide carried that momentum directly into singles play.
 
Brendan Loh delivered the most dominant performance of the afternoon, shutting out Jeremiah Jones 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 6 spot. Yoshka Sborowsky was equally authoritative at the fourth position, defeating Tomas Grime 6-1, 6-1. Andrii Zimnokh closed out Alabama's fourth point with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Sebastian Griffiths in the top flight, sealing the match victory for the Crimson Tide.
 
Three additional singles matches (Nos. 2, 3, and 5) were left unfinished once the match outcome was decided, with Alabama's Jacob Olar, Carlos Gimenez Perez, and Hazratwala each holding commanding leads at the time play was halted.
 
For the next set of matches, the Purple and Gold venture to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where Southern (La.) will host the first SWAC Pod event of the spring. The Braves will face off against Bethune-Cookman (March 6) and Florida A&M (March 7), respectively.
