MOBILE, Ala. – Alcorn's doubles team of
Tomas Grime and
Matthew Holl grabbed a win at the top flight Wednesday afternoon, but it was not enough as South Alabama took a 7-0 win from the Braves in men's tennis action at Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts in Mobile, Alabama.
Competing at home in Mobile, South Alabama (4-5) claimed all six singles matches in straight sets after securing the doubles point to improve to 4-5 on the season. Alcorn fell to 3-12.
South Alabama secured the doubles point despite a setback at the top position.
Tomas Grime and
Matthew Holl edged Bouyacoub and Hannig 7-6 (8-6) at No. 1 doubles to give Alcorn its lone victory of the day. For the Braves doubles tandem, it was their first win together as a duo, improving to 1-2 together on the campaign.
The Jaguars responded with wins at Nos. 2 and 3, as Accossatto and Yigin defeated Griffiths and Juarez 6-3, and Caby and van Raemdonck topped Jones and Thomas 6-1.
In singles play, South Alabama controlled the match from the top of the lineup down.
Braden Hannig defeated
Sebastian Griffiths 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1, while Juan Accossatto followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win over
Matthew Holl at No. 2.
Harold van Raemdonck was dominant at No. 3, dropping just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 victory over
Tomas Grime. At No. 4, Jules Caby earned the most competitive win of the day, holding off
Fabian Juarez 6-0, 7-6 (7-5) in the only match that required a tiebreaker.
Deren Yigin posted a 6-0, 6-0 result against
Jeremiah Jones at No. 5, and Adam Bouyacoub closed out singles play with a 6-0, 6-2 win over
Jerry Thomas at No. 6.
Alcorn is back in action Friday, March 13, when the Braves travel to Delta State at 1 p.m.
