Braves Tennis Suffers Defeat at Delta State

CLEVELAND, Miss. – Alcorn Men's Tennis suffered a 7-0 defeat away to nonconference opponent Delta State on Friday afternoon at Cleveland Country Club in Cleveland, Mississippi. With the loss, the Braves drop their 11th-straight match.
 
Delta State (6-6) scored early-on claiming the doubles point with victories at all three positions, respectfully.
 
Alejandro Bravo and Simon Ojeda set the tone with a dominant 6-0 shutout of Sebastian Griffiths and Fabian Juarez at No. 2 doubles, while Juan Diego Alzate and Joaquin Jarochevsky followed with a 6-1 win over Tomas Grime and Jorge Prats Navarrete at the No. 3 spot. Marti Cerda Castillo and Valentin Greco closed out the doubles sweep with a 6-2 victory over Vicent Llobell Buigues and Matthew Holl on court one.
 
The Statesmen carried that momentum into singles play, where it was Greco turning away Alcorn's Vicent Llobell Buigues in straight sets (6-0, 6-2) in the No. 2 spot. Cerda Castillo followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Griffiths in top flight play, and Bravo topped Fabian Juarez 6-3, 6-1 on court number five.
 
The remaining singles matches were competitive through at least one set.
 
Alzate, Ojeda, and Jarochevsky each needed a 7-5 opening set before pulling away, with Alzate defeating Grime 7-5, 6-0; Ojeda taking down Holl 7-5, 6-2; and Jarochevsky edging Navarrete 7-5, 6-2 as well in his match.
 
The Purple and Golod look to turn things around in their next match away to Louisiana on Friday, March 20, in Lafayette, Louisiana, at 1 p.m.
