NEW ORLEANS, LA - Braves Volleyball (0-3) dropped both matches Saturday to Nicholls and Stonehill at the LSU New Orleans/Nicholls Challenge inside the Human Performance Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. Rylan Jones led the team with a total of 22 kills combined in the two matches.
Vs. Nicholls
The Braves delivered a hard-fought performance, making it their first full five-set match of the season. Alcorn took the first set, 27-25, in a battle that featured 12 tie scores and five lead changes.
Alcorn dropped the next set (21-25), with the Braves rallying back several times, coming down as many as five points to get within two points. Set three was the Braves' best set of the match, as they hit .250 with 15 kills to take the set, 25-21.
The Braves led early, 7-2, and didn't look back, taking the set. In the fourth set, Nicholls took it all (14-25). In the fifth set, Nichols took early control and the game from the Braves. The Braves were unable to stop Nicholls' outside hitters, totaling 21 kills and hitting a .357 Kera Arrington.
Rylan Jones led the attack for the Braves, finishing the match with 16 kills. Daylin Saiki finished with 35 assists, a season high.
Vs. Stonehill
Rylan Jones led the attack with 6 kills. Saiki finished a 12-assist game. In the game, the Braves finally dropped the match on set scores of (15-25),(21-25),(20-25).
In the second set, the Braves controlled an early 16-8 lead but could not hold off the Skyhawks, who rallied to take the set.
Alcorn could not find a way to slow down Stonehill's attack, as the Skyhawks averaged a hitting percentage of .341 over three sets. Samantha Loyd finished with 13 kills while hitting .684, helping lead the Skyhawks' attack.

The Braves will come home for two matches starting on Thursday, September 3rd, as they face Dillard University at noon and Nicholls at 6:00 PM on Friday, September 4th.
