LORMAN, Miss. – Alcorn State Braves (1-0) got their season underway at home Saturday night with a 56-7 win over the Miles College Golden Bears (0-1) at Jack Spinks Stadium.
The Braves got to work late, taking a 7-0 lead with 0.48 seconds left in the first quarter from a Jaylon Tolbert pass completed to Jamarr Ebron, for 26 yards. Miles College quickly responded to the game, tying it 7-7 going into the second quarter; that would be the only score the Golden Bears.
The Braves controlled the rest of the game, opening the floodgates by scoring 28 unanswered points in the second quarter and taking a 35-7 lead into the half.
The offense continued to fire on all cylinders in the second half with a Jaylon Tolbert pass complete to Elijah Griffin for a 36-yard touchdown and a Jaylon Tolbert pass complete to Kelly Tyree for a 17-yard touchdown, going up 49-7 late in the third quarter.
Senior Quarterback Jaylon Tolbert finished with 5 passing touchdowns and 1 rushing touchdown, completing 25-28 passes for 265 yards. The last Braves Quarterback to finish with 5 passing touchdowns in a game was Felix Harper on 10/12/2019 vs Savannah State.
Junior Eric Thomas Jr. led the Braves' defense with 6 total tackles. Senior Timothy "TJ" Jasper led the team with 4 solo tackles.
