LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State volleyball (1-11,1-0) snapped a 13-match losing streak Sunday afternoon, sweeping Arkansas-Pine Bluff in three sets, 25-19, 25-13, 25-13, at the Davey L. Whitney Complex.

Courtney Carter and Jaylynn McNeill led Alcorn offensively with nine kills apiece.

Set One:

Alcorn battled back from an early deficit before taking control midway through the opening set. The Lady Braves trailed 11-7 before cutting the margin to one at 12-11.

Alcorn then used a strong run to take a 15-13 lead, highlighted by kills from Carter and McNeill. The Lady Braves continued to build their advantage, taking a 21-17 lead before closing the set on a 4-0 run.

Alcorn secured the opening set, 25-19, to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
 

Set Two:

The Lady Braves carried their momentum into the second set, jumping out to an early 2-0 lead behind setrice aces from Saiki.

After UAPB battled back to tie the set, Alcorn regained control behind kills from McNeill and Rylan Jones. The Lady Braves eventually built a 10-7 lead before extending it to 15-10.

Alcorn continued to control the set, pushing its advantage to 20-12. The Lady Braves closed out the frame by scoring five of the final six points, including a service ace from Juliana Henao, to claim the 25-13 victory and take a 2-0 match lead.

Set Three:

Alcorn opened the third set with a 3-2 lead before UAPB answered to tie the score at 4-4. The Lady Braves regained the advantage behind a scerece ace from Cater and kills from Alix Burton and McNeill.

Alcorn extended its lead to 8-7 before putting together another strong stretch. The Lady Braves pushed their advantage to 13-8, forcing UAPB to battle from behind.

The Golden Lions cut the deficit to 13-11, but Alcorn responded with a five-point run to take an 18-11 lead. Carter continued to make an impact offensively as the Lady Braves maintained control.

Alcorn closed the set with a 7-3 run, finishing off the 25-13 victory and completing the three-set sweep.

The team finished with a .395 hitting percentage, a season high.
