Adam Schwartz enters his first season as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Alcorn State University after joining the staff in August 2023.
Coach Schwartz comes to “The Reservation” after spending four years as an assistant coach at Blinn College in Brenham, Texas. During his stint at Blinn, Coach Schwartz helped lead the Buccaneers to 74 wins. 14 players were named National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Region including five First team All-Region and one All-American. Thirty-four players under his tutelage moved on to 4-year universities including 12 to the NCAA Division I level. As the academic coordinator, Coach Schwartz saw a 100% graduation rate and raised the average team GPA from 2.87 to 3.37.
Prior to Blinn, Schwartz served as the head boys varsity basketball coach at Mojave High School (North Las Vegas, Nev.) for three seasons. In 2018-19, the Rattlers had one of the most successful seasons in Mojave history after going 22-8 and winning the program’s first 3A Southern Region Championship and making its second ever appearance in the state tournament. Following the 2018-19 season, Schwartz was named the Nevada Preps Coach of the Year. Schwartz also coached with the Las Vegas Prospects Nike EYBL program, where he had the privilege of coaching multiple top-100 players, two McDonald’s All-Americans, and one top-15 NBA draft pick.
Prior to Mojave, Schwartz spent nine seasons as a men’s basketball coach at Lamar Community College. He served as Lamar’s head coach from 2009-15 and as an assistant from 2007-09. He was named the NJCAA Region IX South Sub-Region Coach of the Year after leading the Runnin’ Lopes to their first NJCAA Region IX South Sub-Region Championship in 2010-11. In two seasons as an assistant coach, Schwartz helped lead the Runnin’ Lopes to a 47-21 record. He also helped lead Lamar to its first Region IX Championship and NJCAA National Tournament appearance, placing fifth in 2008-09.
He spent the 2005-06 season as the assistant men’s basketball coach at Colorado Northwestern Community College. Schwartz served as the head coach the following season, where he was able to increase the win total and complete the best two-year stretch the program had seen in many years.
His coaching career began as a student assistant at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) from 2002-05 under coaches Charlie Spoonhour (02-04) and Lon Kruger (04-05). He also spent time as a volunteer assistant basketball coach from 1999-2004 at Durango High School (Las Vegas, NV) under hall of fame coach Al LaRocque.
Schwartz is married to the former Meagan O’Connell-Carne of Dayton, Ohio.
