In a valiant effort, the Lady Braves lost a key SWAC East matchup tonight to Alabama A&M 3-1 at the Whitney Complex. Alabama A&M defeated the Lady Braves in four sets 25-17, 30-28, 19-25, 25-16.
The Lady Braves came out a little sluggish in set one but pick it up in set two. After trailing 23-18, the Lady Braves battled back to tie the game at 24-24. A few miscues late in the second set cause the Lady Braves to drop set two 30-28.
In set three, the Lady Braves took their momentum from set two and used it in set three to defeat the Lady Bulldogs 25-19 forcing a fourth set.
Both teams were neck and neck early in set four but Alabama A&M managed to separate themselves from the Lady Braves taking a commanding 18-8 lead. The Lady Braves found a little life but were just too far behind and dropped the final set 25-16.
Senior
Vanessa Ortega led the Lady Braves with game-high 19 digs on night. Ortega has now gone over the 300 mark in digs (301). Sophomore setter
Sydney Mellom collected 22 assists, eight digs, two kills and two serving aces. Freshman
Lurlethia Jones posted eight kills.
The Lady Braves won't be back in action until November 4th when Mississippi Valley State comes to town.
