Braves and Lady Braves Drop SWAC Openers to Texas Southern

Texas Southern 77, Lady Braves 68
Olivia Brown scored a game-high 21 points but Texas Southern scored 17 points off the Lady Braves turnovers to give the them their first SWAC loss of the season 77-68.

The game was close throughout the majority of the first half with the Lady Tigers leading at the half 30-27.
 
After the half, the Lady Tigers extended their lead to 37-30 on a three-pointer by Miracle Davis with just over one minute into the second half.

The Lady Tigers kept easying away going ahead by as many as 13, 52-39 with 13:10 to play and the Lady Braves never managed to recover from the deficit.

Norianna Haynes and Angelica Wilson-Reid scored 18 and 14 points, respectively.  Jazmin Strane collected 11 rebounds.

Texas Southern 72, Braves 55
The Braves started tonight's game off slow allowing Texas Southern to jump out to a 12-0 lead.

Devante Hampton, who saw his first action for the first time this season, hit the first shot for the Braves tonight to make the score 12-3 but the Tigers owned the first half.

After trailing 41-18 at the half, the Braves gradually picked up the slack.

The Braves kept fighting but could never get the lead under 10 points.  As a team, the Braves shot 72 percent from the free throw line but only shot 8-of-11 free throws.

Luckett led the Braves with 15 points while Marquis Vance chipped in 11 points.

Both the Braves and Lady Braves are back in action Monday night as they welcome the Prairie View A&M Panthers to the Whitney Complex for Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night.  The women's game is schedule to tip-off at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.
