In a game where the Lady Braves led by as many as 17 points, they weren't able to put away the Southern Lady Jaguars tonight at the Davey L. Whitney Complex. Southern outscored the Lady Braves 46-21 in the second half to hand the Lady Braves their fourth conference loss of the season 59-51.
The Lady Braves led the entire first half and went into the locker room with a 30-13 lead.
All of the action began in the second half when Southern started with a 13-3 run to cut the lead to 33-24 with 16:52 to play.
After the Lady Braves pushed the lead back to 11, the Lady Jaguars charged up again and went on a 10-0 run to put themselves within one point 37-36 at the 9:36 mark.
A jumper by
Jasmine Cunningham and a pair of free throws by
Olivia Brown gave the Lady Braves a slight 41-36 lead. Three minutes later Southern took their first lead of the game 46-45 with just over six minutes to go in the game.
Jazmin Strane gave the Lady Braves a 51-48 lead on a made free throw but Southern's Ashley Williams nailed a three-pointer that hung in the cylinder for a split second to tie the game at 51-51.
Southern finished the game on a 8-0 run. The Lady Braves recorded a season-high 28 turnovers in tonight's loss.
Norianna Haynes led all scorers with 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Jazmin Strane collected 14 points and eight rebounds.
The Lady Braves have a week off before rival Jackson State comes to town next Saturday on February 7th. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
