Baseball Opens 2015 Slate at Savannah State on Friday

Head Coach Barret Rey has sights on capturing win no. 100 while at the helm the Braves

The 2015 baseball season is finally here and Head Coach Barret Rey couldn't be happier.  After a third round exit during the 2014 SWAC Baseball Tournament, the Braves have been eager to hit the field again.  This weekend the Braves travel to the state of Georgia to face MEAC opponent Savannah State for a three-game series.

Last season the Braves went 11-42 overall and 10-12 in SWAC play.  Savannah State finished 2014 with a 22-31 record and 11-13 in league play.

Braves Bullpen Facts
Outfield - Several key players return for the Braves this season led by All-SWAC second team outfielder, Scottie Peavey.  Peavey batted .382 and led the team in hits with 65 and doubles with a total of 12.  Joining Peavey in the outfield is redshirt-junior Earl Burl II.  Burl hit four homeruns, collected eight doubles while finishing with a batting average of .259.

Infield - The SWAC 's best baserunner, Moses Charles, returns at shortstop for the Braves.  He batted .320 in 2014 and recorded 64 hits, seven doubles and 27 stolen bases.  First baseman Ashton Lewis is also back in 2015 after batting .273 a year ago.

Pitching - Plenty of new faces fill the Braves bullpen in 2015 and a familiar face rejoins the Braves after a year off.  Cedric Walker returns and is expected to have a great season on the mound for the Braves.

Savannah State Bullpen Facts
Outfield - David Richards heads the outfield for the Tigers.  He finished 2014 with a batting average of .333 recording seven doubles.

Infield - The Tigers are led by 2015 MEAC Preseason Player of the Year, Charles "Tre" Sikes.  Sikes batted .368 last season and recorded 16 doubles, 10 homeruns and 51 RBIs.

Pitching - Senior Brandon Whitmore will probably be the number one starter for the Tigers.  He went 4-5 with an ERA of 4.86 and recorded 44 strikeouts.

The Braves and Tigers will play a double-header on Friday beginning at noon and one game on Saturday at noon.
