Braves Late Surge Not Enough Tonight Against Alabama State

A last minute comeback from the Braves just wasn't enough to overcome the visiting Hornets

A late push in the closing minutes couldn't put the Braves in the driver's seat to win the game as they pick up their third consecutive loss to Alabama State tonight 71-67.

The Hornets jumped out to an 18-2 lead with less than five minutes into the game.

A couple of three-pointers by George Thomas broke the ice for the Braves with 2:45 to play before the half cutting the Hornets lead to 33-25.  But the Hornets still managed to take a double-digit 10-point lead into the locker room 37-27.

Early in the second half, the Braves found themsleves down as many 18 but the latter parts of the second half was when the Braves made a push for an amazing comeback.

With 2:35 to play LeAntwan Luckett made a layup to cut the lead to 64-55.  After Marquis Vance hit one of two free throws, Thomas connected again from behind the arc to shave the Hornets lead down to 64-59.

Tamarcio Wilson scored four of the next six points to put the Braves within two points of the Hornets, 67-65 with .10 seconds to go.

The Hornets hit their free throws down the stretch to secure the win over the Braves.

Luckett led the Braves with 19 points.  Thomas was perfect from the field and behind the arc notching a career-high 17 points.  Wilson chipped in 10 points for the Braves.

The Braves will try to close out their homestand against Alabama A&M Monday night at 7:30 p.m. following the women's game.
