Three players scored in double-figures for the Braves tonight but it wasn't enough to sustain Jackson State as the Braves record their fifth straight loss, 64-61.
The Braves came out hot from the field led by transfer
Michael Davis. Â Davis scored nine of the Braves first 15 points to give his team a 15-6 lead early in the contest.
Jackson State took the lead at the 6:48 mark on a layup by Raeford Worsham, 25-23.
Janarius Middleton gave the Tigers a 33-25 advantage with 1:46 to go before the half. Â
Marquis Vance scored the final basket of the half for the Braves to cut the Tigers lead to 33-27 heading into the locker room.
Vance made a layup to start a run with three minutes into the second half to give the Braves a slight 38-37 lead. Â The Braves went on a 9-0 run and found themselves up 47-38 with 13:09 to go.
The Tigers were determined not to let the game get out of hand. Â Yettra Specks tied the game at 51-51 with just over eight minutes to play.
A minute later, Vance knocked down a three-pointer to regain the lead for the Braves 57-55.
But once again the Tigers answered the Braves with a jumper by Treshawn Bolden giving the Tigers a 62-59 advantage.
The Braves next couple of points came from the charity stripe but they got another shot to win the game with .11 seconds to go. Â LeAntwan Luckett's three-pointer fell short and the Tigers escaped with a win.
Tyrel Hunt scored 15 points and Davis scored 13 points to lead the Braves. Â Vance chipped in 12 points to go with nine rebounds.
The Braves take on Grambling State on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
