The Braves found some life today at Willie "Rat" McGowan Stadium picking up two wins to snap a nine-game losing streak against Tougaloo College 8-7 and 7-3.
Game 1: Braves 8, Tougaloo College 7 (12 innings)Scottie Peavey led off for the Braves with a single to center field. He later scored on a sacrifice fly by
Larry Cowart to give the Braves a 1-0 lead.
Robert Fletcher hit two RBI single in the 2nd inning to increase the Braves lead to 3-0. Â Three batters later,
Collin Carroll stepped in an connected for a two RBI double to right field to score Peavey and
Moses Charles. Â The Braves had a 5-0 lead after two innings.
Tougaloo fought back scoring runs in the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 7th innings to take a 6-5 lead over the Braves.
The game seemed to be in the bag for the Bulldogs with two outs in the bottom of the 9th inning. Â Carroll hit a fly ball to center field which was supposed to be the final out but the Bulldogs center fielder dropped the ball. Â The dropped ball allowed Peavey to score tie the game at 6-6.
In extra innings, Tougaloo scored a run in the top of the 12th inning to go ahead 7-6.
Nick Brooks and
LaDerrick Williams each walked and with two outs
Wallace Rios hit a two RBI double to score Brooks and Williams for the game winning runs.
Peavey finished with three hits and three runs while Carroll recorded three RBIs. Â
Brandon Vega picked up his first win of the season.
Game 2: Â Braves 7, Tougaloo College 3After Tougaloo scored three runs in the 1st inning, the Braves went to work. Â Peavey, Charles and Carroll each singled and loaded the bases. Â The Braves scored two runs on a walk and a RBI groundout by
Nick Brooks to cut the lead to 3-2.
The Braves collected two more runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning on a RBI single by Charles to score
Cedric Walker and
Dervincent Hamilton hit a sacrifice fly to score Peavey.
Carroll singled in the 4th inning to score Walker. Â Hamilton flied out again to score Peavey for the third time in the game. Â The Braves got a little tricky when Charles stole home with the pitcher's back turned to make the score 7-3. Â
Some solid defense and pitching by the Braves secured the 7-3 victory for the Braves in game two.
Peavey scored three runs and collected two hits. Â Charles scored twice, recorded two hits and a RBI while Hamilton picked up three RBIs.
The Braves hit the road this weekend for a key SWAC East three-game series against Mississippi Valley in Itta Bena, Miss. on Saturday and Sunday.Â
