Braves Split With Tougaloo, Smith Earns Complete Shutout

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Yesterday, the Braves baseball team ventured back to Jackson for a makeup game against Tougaloo College in a seven-inning doubleheader where they split with the Bulldogs 6-4 and 9-0.

Game 1:  Touglaoo 6, Braves 4
The Braves struck first in the second inning scoring three runs on five hits.

Tougaloo bounced back with a run in the bottom half to make the score 3-1.  After the Braves scored one run in the top of the fourth inning, the Bulldogs racked up four runs to take a 4-3 lead and never looked back taking game one of the doubleheader.

Jesus Vasquez picked up the loss.

Game 2:  Braves 9, Tougaloo 0
Freshman pitcher Jahborus Smith earned his second win of the season pitching a complete game shutout in game two.  He struck out seven and didn't walk a single batter.

Once again, the Braves took an early 4-0 lead by scoring three runs in the first inning and one run in the second inning.  Smith was lights out the rest of the way on the mound and the Braves picked up their ninth win of the season.

Scotty Peavey paved the way yesterday for the Braves with six hits (one double & one triple) and six RBIs.  Wallace Rios batted in two runs while scoring three runs and picking up three hits.

The Braves hit the road for another key SWAC East showdown with Alabama A&M this weekend beginning on Saturday with a doubleheader.
