Box Score 2 Head Coach Barrett Rey and his ball club knew coming in today that they had to win the weekend series vs. Mississippi Valley State. Well the Braves did just that taking both games today 18-7 and 12-9.
Game 1: Braves 18, Mississippi Valley State 7 (8 innings)The Braves collected 15 hits to take game one of the weekend series.
Jordan Boston put the Braves on the board in the first inning on a two-RBI double to give the Braves a 2-0 lead.
In the second inning, the Braves scored 11 runs to separate themselves from the Delta Devils led by
Earl Burl III three-RBI single.
The Delta Devils scored four runs in the top of the fourth inning to cut the lead to 13-4.
Collin Carroll hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the fifth inning to put the 10-run rule back in effect.
The Delta Devils fired right back with three runs in between the sixth and seventh inning to cut the Braves lead to 14-7.
Walter Vives hit a RBI double and
Devin Dukes hit a sacrifice fly to score two in the bottom of the seventh inning to push the lead back to 16-7.
Scotty Peavey ended the game just before the ninth inning connecting on a two-RBI homerun for his fifth straight homerun in five game which broke a school and SWAC record.
Boston finished with four hits and three RBIs in game one.
Game 2: Braves 12, Mississippi Valley State The bats kept flying in the game with the Braves recording 19 hits.
Burl III hit a single but managed to make it all the way home safely on an error to give the Braves an early 1-0 lead.
The Delta Devils answered with three runs of their own in the top of the second inning to take a 3-1 lead. But the Braves fired back with a big four-run inning in the bottom half of the second inning.
One run in the bottom of the third inning on a RBI single by Peavey gave the Braves a 6-3 advantage.
Devin Dukes led the charge in the bottom of the fourth inning helping the Braves score three runs with a RBI triple to score
Moses Charles.
After the Delta Devils scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning to cut the lead to 9-6, the Braves came back with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Burl III led off the inning with a triple followed by a RBI single by Carroll. Charles and Vives both collected RBIs to give the Braves a 12-6 lead.
The Delta Devils made their final push for the win by scoring three runs in the top of the ninth inning but the Braves defense sustained by ending the game with a double play.
Boston finished the day with seven hits (three doubles), four RBIs and scored three runs.
