Lorman, Ms - Alcorn State jumped out to a big first-half against Grambling State to post a 69-53.
Alcorn opened the game on an 11-2 run and added to their lead on a Katumbusi Rahamanh's three pointer with 6:15 to play in the first half. The Braves was hot from beyond the arc, shooting 6-12 from beyond the 3-point line. Grambling State was able to keep pace by knocking down 10 free throws. Alcorn State saw contributions from everyone in the first half. TYREL HUNT led all scores in the first half with 9 points. Octavos Brown recorded seven defensive rebounds. "This is what this team is about," said Head Coach Montez Robinson. Coach Robinson also stated, "I am proud of this team. We don't have that guy that gets angry when they don't get their shots. They are supportive of each other."
The Braves extended the 12 point first half lead to 18 on an Octavious Brown free throw. The lead crept up to a game high 24 points when Shawn Willet knocked down his two free throws with 3:21 minutes left on the clock. Alcorn cruised the rest of the way with good defense and making it difficult for Grambling State to get their offense going.
10 different Braves scored, two in double digits. Brown led all scorers with 13 points, and recorded 8 rebounds. Hunt recorded eleven points.
Alcorn heads to Itta Bean, Mississippi to face the Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley Saturday. Jan. 16th.
