LORMAN, Miss – The Alcorn State University Braves (5-2, 7-11) overcame a poor first half to defeat the Alabama A&M University Bulldogs (2-4, 6-9) 63-58, Saturday night in the safe confines of the Davey L. Whitney HPER.
The Bulldogs came out the gates on a 17-9 run in the first five minutes of the game. Alabama A&M shot lights out in the first half, shooting 60 percent from the field and going six of nine from beyond the arc. Alcorn State came out cold, shooting 28 percent and one of nine from beyond the arc.
The Braves came out of intermission on a 12-2 run to take the lead. Later in the half, the Braves extended their lead to eight on a
TYREL HUNT 3-pointer with six and half minutes left in the game.
The Bulldogs got to within three points, but that was as close as they could get as Alcorn State held on for their fourth consecutive victory.
Octavious Brown scored 15 points and recorded five rebounds to lead Alcorn.
TAMARCIO WILSON and Devonte Hampton scored 13 points.
PATRICK ONWENU had 10 points and
MARQUIS VANCE led the team with ten rebounds.
Alcorn State's defense held Ladarius Tabb, one of the SWAC's most prolific scorers, to 13 points and seven rebounds.
The Braves four game winning streak is the longest since 2012 season.
The Braves will face Alabama State Monday, Jan. 25 after the Women's Basketball game.
