Jackson State escapes with 80-71 victory over Alcorn State

LORMAN, MS - Jackson State hit a three-pointer with 2 seconds left in the game to take Alcorn State into overtime, escaping with an 80-71 victory in overtime.

Octavious Brown got the night started for the Braves with a thunderous alley-oop dunk from TAMARCIO WILSON. The Braves' 12-4 start could not be maintained, as this game was a game of runs. Both teams were making their marks beyond the arc. Alcorn State made a season high 10 3-pointers.

That run was short lived, as the Tigers were able to capitalize on the Braves' turnovers. The Tigers were also clutch from beyond the arc, which helped them take control in the first half.

In the second half, Alcorn State started to chip away at Jackson State's 42-35 lead. The Braves closed it to within one with 3 minutes to go on a Devonte Hampton jumper for three. After a JSU turnover, Alcorn took the lead on a Brown fast break lay-up.

Alcorn State had a four-point lead with 14 seconds to go. Jackson State scored on a quick lay-up after a brief timeout to cut the lead 67-65. A quick foul and a missed free-throw set up the last play with 8 seconds to go. With no time outs, the Tigers tied the game on a long-range three pointer from the top of the arc.

In overtime, the Tigers took control and escaped with an 80-71 win.

Alcorn will face Grambling State at home Monday, Jan. 11th, after the Women's game.
