TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alcorn State University Braves fall to the University of Alabama in a two game series.
GAME 1 – Alcorn State took a 5-4 lead into the eighth inning, but could not hold on dropping game one to the University of Alabama Tuesday afternoon in Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
The Crimson Tide got it started with a RBI double to left field and added another run on a single to extend the lead 2-0.
Both squads went scoreless over the next two innings when Alabama took a commanding 3-0 lead on a solo homerun over the left feild wall.
The Braves recorded two runs in the top of the fifth inning on a CEDRIC WALKER RBI double to left field scoring JASON SANEZ. Walker advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and would later score on a MOSES CHARLES RBI single to close the gap 3-2 Alabama answered back with an RBI groundout in the bottom of the fifth inning to extend their lead 4-2.
After a walk and a single to centerfield, the Crimson Tide changed pitchers. With two consecutive batters hit by a pitch and bases loaded, a RBI brought the game to within one run. On the next play a strikeout-wild pitch advanced COLLIN CARROLL to tie the game at four in the top of the sixth inning.With the go ahead run on second base and a runner on first Carroll doubled to left field to take the lead over the Crimson Tide, 5-4. The University of Alabama took advantage of a fielding error to take back the lead 7-5. Alabama would finish the game 8-5.
GAME 2: Alcorn State shutout in game two of doubleheader action
Alabama jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and cruised the rest of the way scoring in all but one inning in a seven inning 8-0 shutout winover Alcorn in game two.
The Braves were held to just two hits.
Alcorn State will be back in action Friday when they host a three day series against in-state rival Mississippi Valley State University.
First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
