Alcorn (4-13, 4-2 SWAC) held UAPB (4-12, 1-4 SWAC) scoreless for the first 5:39 of the contest, racing off to an 11-0 lead capped on a layup from senior Talisa Sherman. Lady Lions guard Malaik Muhammad knocked down a trey with 40 seconds to go before junior Tia Sanders responded on the other end with a buzzer-beating three to give the Lady Braves a sizable 20-9 advantage after the first.

Both teams went into a scoring lull in the second after senior Henrietta Wells converted a layup at 8:29 on a pass from freshman Jada Hargrove which made it 24-11 in Alcorn's favor.  Neither team made a field goal for nearly four minutes as each team sunk free throws before senior Tori Spann collected an offensive board and made a layup.

After the Lady Lions connected on a jumper, senior Brianna Luton swished back-to-back treys to put the Lady Braves ahead 40-19. UAPB's Tyjha McGee scored on a layup to bring the score to 40-21 at the break.
