LORMAN, Miss. – Senior
Brianna Luton notched a career-high 24 points and did not miss a shot from the field in the second half as the Alcorn State University women's basketball program rolled over Alabama A&M University 71-42 in its final home game of the regular season Monday evening at the Davey L. Whitney Complex.
Alcorn (9-17, 9-6 SWAC) outscored AAMU (2-21, 0-14 SWAC) 42-21 in the second half and 22-6 in the fourth quarter. The Lady Braves ended the contest with a 24-13 edge in points off turnovers and 40-22 advantage on points in the paint.
Junior
Miracle Rushing tallied 14 points and nearly converted her second consecutive double-double with nine boards. Senior
Henrietta Wells also neared a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds. Junior
Alexus Freeman stuffed the stat sheet with seven points, seven boards and a game-high six steals.
Alcorn limited the Lady Bulldogs to a 28-percent mark from the field, the lowest by an opponent this season.
The Lady Braves commenced the first 1:57 of action on a 7-0 run concluded by a layup from Luton.
Five different Alcorn student-athletes scored as the Lady Braves later held AAMU scoreless for 4:57 between the first and second quarters to take an early 20-7 lead.
The Lady Bulldogs would string together two six-point runs before the half, which ended in a 26-21 Lady Braves lead.
The second half started as a back-and-forth affair until back-to-back Luton trifectas sparked a 21-0 Alcorn scoring barrage. Luton scored 12 of those points, giving the Lady Braves a 28-point margin that could not be overcome.
Alcorn continues its push for a top-four seed in the SWAC Tournament Saturday when it travels to face Southern in a 3 p.m. bout. The Lady Braves will have next Monday off before concluding the regular season at Texas Southern and Prairie View.

- The 21-point run marked the largest such stretch by the Lady Braves this season
- This was Rushing's seventh career double-figure scoring performance and second in as many games.
- Alcorn's six points allowed in the fourth is a tie for the lowest in a quarter this season. It has achieved that feat on three different occasions.
- Luton went 5-for-5 from the field in the second half including 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.
- The Lady Braves are 12-1 under head coach Courtney Pruitt when scoring 70-plus points.
